Portrait, Bartallah Iraq
June 25th, 2006
C-Print on Kodak Endura Matte Paper (edition of 9)
11" x 20" (image size)
Despite the cool calming nature traditionally associated with a color palette of muted greens, blues, and white, the face of the Iraqi man pictured here tells a different story with his furrowed brow, the squint of his eyes, and the strained lines of his cheeks around pursed lips. His expression shows what cannot be seen. The photo was taken after a truck bomb attack where dump truck detonated at the gate of the Democratic Party compound, killing the driver, two others, and wounding five.
