Staff Sgt. Mike Pryor is an Army photojournalist with the 2nd BCT, 82nd Airborne Division Public Affairs Office. His writings and photos have appeared in the Washington Post, LA Times, Dallas Morning News, Arizona Republic, Army Times, Soldier of Fortune and Stars & Stripes as well as wire services including the Associated Press and Getty Images. He twice earned the distinction of top honors in the Field Artillery Magazine “Photos of the Year” contest in 2005 and 2007, and recently won FORSCOM Military Journalist of the Year in 2007. During his four years in the Army, Pryor has served three deployments, all with the 82nd Airborne Division, Iraq in 2004-2005, a tour in Afghanistan in 2005, and a current Iraq deployment, which began in January 2007. He has paid witness and chronicled some pivotal moments of the war including Iraq’s first national elections, the 2007 parliamentary elections in September 2007, and most recently of the “Surge” which pushed thousands of extra troops into Baghdad. Pryor is currently a resident of Fort Bragg, N.C. with his wife Jackie (who is also an Army photographer), and his son, Finn.
